Karen Y. Winston
Meteorology Instructor
Federal Aviation Administration Academy

Karen Winston finished her B.S. degree in Meteorology in May 1993 at the University of Oklahoma.

Karen's areas of interest include satellite data, technology transfer and training, climate, and severe storms.

On a typical day Karen will either teach a weather lesson, prepare to teach or develop/revise teaching materials.  Karen teaches the weather lessons to students training to be air traffic controllers for the FAA. The controllers must understand basic weather principles to interpret and convey weather reports to the flying public. The subjects Karen teaches include aviation weather hazards, current weather, forecast and advisories and fundamentals of weather, to name a few. The weather sections of the classes can last from one week to a couple months, depending on the course.

Most of Karen's time out of the office is spent rollerblading, in aerobics, music, community service, and web page design.
