Weather Or Not

I'm in the sixth grade and I like soccer. I chose this project because I wanted to know if there would be a difference in temperature under soil or sod. After the teacher mentioned this as a possible project, I thought it sounded interesting and challenging.

My project is comparing soil and sod temperatures from two different Mesonet sites. My two sites are Tishomingo and Kenton. I used the computer to pull up and make graphs of soil and sod temperatures for five days. I laid out the graphs and looked for patterns, likenesses, or differences. I then made my poster.

My conclusion was that the temperature under sod was hotter than the bare soil. The sod also held the heat better through the night than the bare soil. There wasn't any differences that I noticed between the two sites. I learned that covered soil stayed warmer than bare soil. Mulched garden soil would stay warmer than unmulched. So probably the plants would grow better and faster.

I would like to thank my mom, Diana Carver. I would do another project because it was fun and I learned a bunch of new things.
